The Last Ten Days of Ramadan
Asalamualykum peeps!
So guess what?
We are in the middle of Ramadan!
For those of you who don't know, Ramadan is a special month in which muslims fast every single day from dawn till dusk for around 30 days.
Why do we fast?
We fast so that we can experience the hunger that so many around the world have to face everyday. Unfortunately for them, they don't always get to count on an iftar (post-sunset) meal everyday.
This is why in this month muslims are also encouraged to spend their wealth and time in helping the poor. Whether it's sending money back home, or donating to an organization that provides for people, giving for the sake of Allah is an important aspect of Ramadan.
Some other things muslims are encouraged to do, or rather not do, is to swear, backbite, gossip and waste time. As much time as possible should be spent remembering Allah, and worshipping him.
You see, we spend the entire day with empty stomachs so it tends to go by slowly. Everything we do in this month, we have more time to reflect on it. This means that we are able to reflect on our character and who we are and how we treat others. It may come across our mind that we're really impatient, or rude, or anything. The point is to reflect on ourselves and see where we can make changes and better ourselves for the sake of Allah.
Now that I'm done explaining the gist of Ramadan, let's get to what I was talking about.
We are now in the last ten days of Ramadan. These last ten days hold the utmost of importance over the entire month. Any form of worship we did before these ten days should be increased.
Think of it as the last stretch in a marathon. It's like you're almost nearing the end of the race and you just have to push a little bit more harder to get to the finish line. Same thing for these last ten days. We just have to gear up (abayas, hijabs, mousallas and all) and challenge ourselves to do better than we did before, more than we did yesterday. And in sha Allah, our efforts will be excepted by the Lord Most High.
Oh Allah, make these last ten days a means of becoming closer to you, and worshipping you, becoming better versions of ourselves, and lastly of being accepted by You.
Aameen.
peace,
L.
